Welcome to the Truckee Sourdough Co. Blog!

A peek into Truckee's past and a few "Need to Know" facts about this blog.

Keith and Dianne Nikkel began this bakery a long, long time ago, in a time when Truckee, CA was a very different town than it is today.  There wasn't a bypass, or any multimillion dollar homes built; it was a simple yet thriving railroad town nestled in the mountains.  Every car had to pass right through downtown Truckee in order to get to Lake Tahoe.  And there was free parking as far as the eye could see!

Ok, not that long ago!

Since then, both Truckee and the bakery have grown to meet the needs of the rising population.  The train passes through town a little bit more often, and today there are multiple road ways in and out of Truckee and to the freeway.  Most of the restaurants and stores have changed hands once or twice, as have the local ski resorts.  Northstar is now owned by Vail.  Squaw and Alpine have even merged together  --  a shocking historical event considering most locals once thought the idea of merging these two local mountains "completely unheard of"!

Truckee Today
Today Downtown Truckee is the place to be on a sunny day!

But a few things have managed to stay the same.  The Truckee River still flows magnificently through the center of town,  Truckee itself still gets an average of 300+ days of sunshine a year,  and Truckee Sourdough Co. is still baking all natural artisan breads every day.

 -----

When it comes to making bread, the bakery has stayed true to the Old World Baking techniques that make each loaf an honest artisan,  but we've also made a few changes to keep up with this ever changing world  --  like joining the 21st century!  (What? The Internet is on computers now?)

We have an active online presence worth following,  a beautiful website created for us by Onyx Digital Media,  and now we have a blog!
