About Us

We aren’t your typical sourdough!

Every loaf is handcrafted using only fresh, clean ingredients and our legendary 30-year-old starter. Slow-fermented on the banks of the stunning Truckee River, our artisanal bread captures a unique mountain character that simply can’t be recreated anywhere else. From the High Sierra to the Central Valley I-80 corridor, our signature subtle tang has made us a local favorite across Northern California and Nevada. 

Truckee, located 15 minutes from Lake Tahoe, is famous as the ultimate retreat for skiers, hikers, history buffs, and culinary adventurers alike, but a place to make delicious bread? In 1996, Keith & Dianne Nikkel saw this beautiful mountain town as the perfect place for world-class sourdough. Trading the corporate grind for the mountain life, the pair brought years of deli expertise from Napa Valley to Truckee. When they couldn’t find bread that met their standards in a town that averages over 200 feet of snow annually, Truckee Sourdough was born — bringing artisanal quality to the heart of the Sierras.

Truckee Sourdough is a premier artisan bakery specializing in traditional, slow-fermented techniques. Our family-owned bakery is passionate about providing the best bread to kitchens big and small in Northern California and Northern Nevada. From our signature sourdough and artisan English Muffins to our cold-fermented pizza dough and brioche burger buns that hold it all together, we provide the breads that elevate every menu.
